Beach Babes

Another hot day in San Diego meant we were headed straight to the beach... after nap time of course. Jack is obsessed with the beach! He loves the sun, the sand, and especially the cold water. It took Tate and Beck a little longer to warm up, but by the end of the day all three toddlers were covered in sand (all the sunscreen helps it to really stick!)

Well, I was definitely up for the challenge! I love terrible pictures, they make me laugh so hard! I had many to choose from, but these two are my favorite. La Jolla Cove is one of my favorite places in San Diego... We love to start at Prospect Street and walk all the way to Pearl Street... and seal and people watch all along the way. Sometimes if I am lucky we even stop for an icecream cone.

The last week has been so much fun! Spencer finished his last final one week ago, and we have been celebrating ever since. I am enjoying ever minute of having Spencer around... especially because I know it will not last... he will be starting a clerkship in a couple of days. Jack went to his first Christensen Family Easter Party on Saturday. He was overwhelmed by all of the people, but I think he had fun dying his egg. I loved catching up with my in-laws, and seeing my nieces and nephews. It is so crazy how quickly kids grow up!

Today Jack and I drove up to Newport to hang-out with Kacie (she is visiting Katie Weaver this weekend). I am always surprised by how quickly the drive goes by. I loved hanging out with Kacie. It feels like forever since the two of us have spent time together. Kacie of course looks beautiful and fabulous... and Jack is as cute as they come... The Easter Bunny came a week early this year, since Jack and I will be in SLC over Easter... poor old Spen will be getting ready for finals. I thought Jack would be excited and curious about the big package in the front room, but he was rather indifferent. Although, he did think it was fun when he discovered cookies inside the eggs.

Emerson, Tony, me, and Jack enjoyed breakfast at The Cottage this morning. Jack loves french toast... actually he loves anything with maple syrup! The weirdest thing... after breakfast we played at the beach, and then we went home and I gave Jack a bath and he still smelled like syrup when I put him to bed.

My little jackpot is all grown up! We celebrated Jack's first birthday tonight with some of our friends... and Jack's friends of course. Jack loves having people over, but he was pretty clueless that all of the fuss was about him. It is a good thing he had his older and more mature friend, Cate, to help him open all of his presents. Jack was showered with gifts from his doting grandparents and our thoughtful friends. Thank you everyone.

We let Jack eat his very own birthday cake. I thought he would just dive right in (like his mom usually does) but he was very slow and serious... one little nibble at a time... that didn't last too long. I will resist the urge to post every frosting face picture, I will limit the blog to just a few.

Christmas Vacation

As I look forward to a new year with our baby jack… soon to be toddler jack… I am reflective about what 2006 brought our little family. It was a year of firsts… First pregnancy… First delivery (nothing like the movies)… First beautiful baby boy… First day of law school… First time crawling… First law school exam (ahhhh)… First Thanksgiving dinner away from SLC… First tooth… First word (if dadadada counts)… First time surfing a ten-foot wave… First winter without snow (we are not complaining)… First Christmas with Jack.

Our Christmas was wonderfully packed with time well spent with our family. Jack loved the constant attention, and we loved the babysitters! Thanks for a great Christmas Vacation fam!!!

On Saturday night we went to the annual December Nights at Balboa Park. It was a really festive night! The park was filled with lights and decorations... We even ate roasted chestnuts. I was thrilled to be able to spend a little time with Spen, but of course he headed back to the library after we left the park.

Last night we had a Mexican Potluck while we watched the Chargers game. Go Chargers! I think the potluck gave me a potbelly! Our menu included 7 layer dip, roasted garlic quesadillas, enchiladas soup, cafe rio like tacos, fried ice cream , and chocolate cake! Oh and Spen made La Jolla lemonade. Yum.

At this point in the game Brittany and Todd thought the Chargers were going to lose...

Breakfast by the Sea

Jack has been waking up earlier than usual lately, so on Saturday morning we joined Spen at Del Mar beach. While Spencer surfed Jack and I ate breakfast and walked along the beach. It was a perfect morning. The unfamiliar coastal breeze convinced Jack that snuggling up to me was a good idea... This is definitely an uncommon event! I love the beach, especially in the morning. Jack is becoming so aware of his surroundings. He studied the pelicans coast off the air along the waves (if you have seen it you know what I am talking about). He also loves to see people walking their dogs on the beach. Ever since he was introduced to Fritz in Salt Lake he loves dogs.

Our little "fatty mcbutter pants" is getting so big! He just thinks he is a little man. He is really trying to walk along the furniture, but he is still pretty wobbly. Last week I babysat/nannied for this family with two kids. I worked from 7am to 1pm, while we were at the families house Jack refused to eat or nap. It was the strangest thing! I guess Jack thought a hunger strike would be the best way to get my undivided attention back! He was right, I quit on Friday. On Saturday and Sunday he ate and slept like a champ.

My parents (Joansie Wonsie and Scottie too hottie) just came and vacationed for 5 days... And I must say it was like vacation for me too! We relaxed at the beach, went shopping, ate at great restaurants, walked around the cove... Spen and I were even able to go on a date! It was so much fun having them here... Jack's face lit up when he saw them. It makes me home sick for our family just thinking about it!

We had a great time on Labor Day. We met up with the Duckworths and Amber Garrett at Newport Beach. It was so much fun to hang-out and lay out. When Spen and Mitch get together they turn into 10 year old boys... so of course they had fun playing at the beach... boogie boarding and paddle ball.

For the first time we let Jack go wild at the beach. He loved crawling all over the sand, and as you can see he got pretty messy! After a few face plants in the sand I had to strip him down to nothing and give him a cold shower at the beach... he didn't like that very much. Jack's uncle Jeff and his girlfriend Ashley came to visit, and he has loved playing with them. After studying for 12 hours at school Spen met up with us at the beach and hit the waves. We love San Diego!
